The relationship between grad students and food

PHD Comics: Leftovers

PHD Comics: Leftovers

PhD Comics are produced here in Stanford. Or at least they started here. Now, I’m a big fan since a few years back (maybe regularly, only over a year or so) and I always found it so true that it’s amazing. Today however, I had a complete notion of dejá vu. And it was just hilarious.

So apparently there was a meeting somewhere next door to our room. When the meeting was finished someone said that there was free food left on the table. A colleague of mine just jumped out of his chair and went over that other room to check if indeed food was available, if it was free, and if it was not a trap. He came back a couple of minutes later complaining about the pita bread being too soft (he’s israeli), while holding a maple-leaf sized piece of pita bread on one hand and a bunch of salad in a plastic box on the other. The others, seeing this, laughed. One of them got up, grabbed an empty tupperware and ventured into that other room emerging victorious a couple of minutes later with the tupperware full of food. And he repeated the procedure with another empty tupperware. And so did the first colleague, this time armed with an empty carte d’or package.

I couldn’t help but laugh and think: “Ok, this is Stanford. These are the PhD comics in vivo. Welcome” :)
