A very interesting article on CNN.com about an investigation on a major fraud case by the pharmaceutical Pfizer. In short, Pfizer sold a drug as safe for what the FDA had ruled otherwise, earned $1.7 billion in profit, and dodged a conviction by pulling a subsidiary of a subsidiary of a subsidiary to take the bullet instead.
Apparently, convicted pharmaceuticals can no longer participate in Medicare/Medicaid programs, and Pfizer used its weight to force the feds to make a deal. What would happen if a company the size of Pfizer could no longer sell their products to federal funded programs? Economically for them, it would be devastating, but for the general population, it would be likewise destructive.
